Are you interested in federal legislation and policy affecting libraries, connected in your campus community, and willing to work with your members of Congress for change? ACRL needs you! We’re seeking to expand our group of ACRL legislative advocates and just named Mike McLane as our new visiting program officer to help in this regard. We invite to you to apply to become an ACRL legislative advocate.

Listen to Jonathan Miller, Director of Olin Library at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, talk about his experience as one of the inaugural group of ACRL legislative advocates. In this interview, recorded October 2007, he encourages others to join, saying, “Grassroots librarians with links to others in our communities are our legislative power.” He believes that talking about legislative and policy issues with administrators and faculty on campus has changed their perception of the library for the better. For Jonathan, being an ACRL Legislative Advocate is a lot of fun, a great role and requires just 1 hour a month.

Check out the member profile of another ACRL legislative advocate, Aaron Dobbs, Systems & Electronic Resources/Web Librarian at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania. Read more about the responsibilities, duties and apply online by July 11, 2008.
