Emerging Leaders 08 info coming soon

We will be using the wiki as the vehicle for publishing EL08 info. We hope to have the announcement and application available there by May 18 (that's my goal, anyway.) It would have been useful to have the feedback from your evals before we planned next year, but the timing is off. We will adjust as possible based on your feedback and it will have a major impact on the program as it goes forward.
EL in DC

Our second session in DC will meet on Friday, June 22, 2007 from 8:30 am – 5 PM in the Washington Convention Center—Room 144 A-C. The poster session and the reception will be from 3-5 PM. Invite your friends and colleagues! You will have time at lunch to set up your display on your table. We can't use the walls.

I have been keeping up with your projects as time permits. Some of you are doing great things and it shows. I hope the rest of you are also productive and it just doesn't show yet. And I hope you are asking for help if and when you need it.

Also you will be getting an invite to Leslie's suite for late Saturday night.
Connie

Interest in the Library Profession

Dear Fellow ELs,

Our project team is working on a marketing plan for the Web site www.librarycareers.org and have a few questions we’d like to put to you. 1) How did you become interested in the library profession? 2) What tools did you use (print, Web, or in person) to find out more about the profession? Our goal is to learn where people who have recently joined the profession got their information to see where we should be marketing. We also want to see what roadblocks people might have run into that might be able to be addressed with the site. Please feel free to be as open ended as you like.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Regina Cortez, Alexia Hudson, Qiana Johnson, Robin Rousu, and Carolyn Wood
Senge and Goleman: Working with Presence

One small idea from the conversation "Working with Presence":
Many organizations have "psuedo harmony" where there is a lot of stuff under the surface, but they are not dealing with it. One way to get change, Senge says, is to listen to the fringe of the organization. The fringe are the people the establishment doesn't quite trust yet because they are too new or too different in gender or ethnicity. They don't share the history. A productive team listens to the people on the team who are less invested in the status quo.

Connie's reaction: Seems obvious, and if not easy, then at least linear, when it comes from the top, from the leadership. How have you, ELs, been successful in contributing to a team from "the fringe" of the organization, especially an organization which was invested in the status quo?
