Membership Meeting
It may look like the Steering Committee makes all the decisions but the source of the GLBTRT’s power is its membership. Our annual Membership Meeting will be held Saturday, 6/28, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., at the Crowne Plaza’s Mazatlan Ballroom—giving GLBTRT members the opportunity to ask questions, deliberate, complain, praise, and give direction to your officers and committee chairs.
REFORMA President’s Program: Libraries and Justice for the Latino GLBT community.
Library collections and services to Latino and Spanish-speaking patrons are crucial in today’s library. Yet many of these services often fail to include collections about the GLBT experience. On Saturday, 6/28, 1:30 -3:30, in the Hyatt Regency Orange County’s Royal Room, hear Adan Griego, Jamie Naidoo, and Tatiana de la Tierra highlight the importance of including GLBT services sensitive to the needs of the Latino community. The program will be moderated by REFORMA’s Hot Gay President, Mario A. Ascencio.
Introduction to Women’s Issues (SRRT)
Learn about the SRRT Feminist Task Force (FTF), Committee on the Status of Women in Librarianship (COSWL), ACRL’s Women’s Studies Section (WSS) and the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Round Table (GLBTRT) and get information about how you can participate. Saturday, 6/28, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m., in the Hilton Anaheim, Palisades Room.
Coming Out at Work: 20 Years Later
20 years ago, the GLBT Task Force of the SRRT sponsored a program on Coming Out at Work. Join us as we revisit that topic with librarians Joel Bangilan, Anne Moore, K.R. Roberto, Richard DiRusso, and John Sandstrom to see what has changed and what has not in the last 20 years. Sunday, 6/28, 1:30—3:30 p.m. in the Anaheim Convention Center, Room 203B.
GLBTRT Social
Been stuck in meetings all day? Ready for a rollicking romp with rambunctious rapscallions? The GLBTRT social is for you! Sunday, 6/29 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., come join us at Tortilla Jo's, 1510 Disneyland Drive, Anaheim, CA. We'll be in the Mambo Terrace and Ortega Room. (Please note the change in location from the ALA program!) The Social is open to all, so whether you're a long-term fan or a newcomer interested in what we do, come on down and party with us! While admission is free, we do ask for a small donation to enable us to continue our good work. Plus, with the defeat of Prop 22, wedding cake is promised!
Stonewall Book Awards Brunch
Join the GLBTRT for its annual event celebrating outstanding GLBTQ writing. The 2008 winners, Ellis Avery, author of The Tea House Fire, and Mark Doty, author of Dog Years: A Memoir, will speak. Advance ticket purchase is required. Monday, 6/30, 10:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Embassy Suites South, Landmark Ballroom.
GLBT Graphic Novels and Comics
Monday, 6/30, from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the Platinum Room at Anaheim Marriott, learn about the popular, growing world of GLBT Graphic Novels and Comics! YA Librarians Robin Brenner and Snow Wildsmith will lead off with teen comics and manga, followed by The L Word writer and comic artist Ariel Schrag on her work and special and public librarian John Bradford on some of today’s best gay male comics.
GLBTRT Social
Sunday 6/29/08
6:00pm-8:00pm
Tortilla Jo's, 1510 Disneyland Drive.
The Social will be in the Mambo Terrace and Ortega Room.
A taco bar and drinks will be provided. While we'll ask for donations at the door, there is no charge to attend the social. All members and friends of GLBTRT are welcome to attend. Join us to network with friends and co-workers at our annual social, held offsite. Food and drinks, and great conversation.
Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to Nancy Silverrod, our incoming co-chair, and Tracy Netcoux, our incoming secretary!
