Please plan to attend the Forum on Library Education to be held on Friday,
January 19, 2007 from 1:30 to 3:30pm during the upcoming ALA Midwinter
Meeting in Seattle, Washington. This Forum is jointly sponsored by the
Association of Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) and by the
American Library Association (ALA) and its Committee on Education (COE).
This Forum continues the dialog on issues in library and information science
education and it identifies new issues and new challenges confronting our
profession. The Forum is open to ALA and ALISE members. The format of the
Forum allows for substantive input by those attending it. As part of this
effort, a Call for Issues Papers has been sounded to gather valuable input
from as wide a constituency as possible. Brief, one page papers will be
posted on a website to solicit information on how library education might be
improved. Information on this is available from: www.ala.org/educationforum. Furthermore, a Blog for ongoing discussion will be available to gather
additional commentary on library education issues.
The Forum will include brief papers on these respective topics from the
following presenters: Who "We" Are in Library Education: Leslie Burger;
Overview of Education Issues: John Budd; Future Directions of ALA
Accreditation: Tom Leonhardt; The Curriculum and Accreditation: Michael
Gorman; Supporting LIS Education Through Practice: Loriene Roy. Discussion
will then ensue by those in attendance who will develop specific action
plans to address and possibly resolve critical issues in library education.
There is no fee to register for this event. You may register for the Forum
using the online registration form at www.ala.org/eduformreg. We hope that
you are able to register for the Forum and participate in its activities:
the Call for Papers, and the Blog. We hope to see you there. For additional
questions about the forum contact Kimberly Sanders at ksanders@ala.org.
