Which is something a student or new member will otherwise do at some point, right? And I added a division (not telling which one).
So why is it that the only welcome I received is a receipt for my purchase?
No thank you from the division I renewed with?
No hello from the division I added?
Over on the ACRL blog Steven Bell's "New Members For The Digital Age" suggests a new, additional form of ALA membership: virtual membership. See it and comments by others.
Take a look at Laura Cohen's Library 2.0 Manifesto. How much do her statements, with slight modification (e.g., "I will not be defensive about my library, but will look clearly at its situation and make an honest assessment about what can be accomplished.") can we apply to ALA in ways that offer members greater opportunity to participate and contribute? Just substitute "association," "division," or "round table" for "library" in this statement. What implications do you see?
Task Force member John W. Berry submitted his ideas about ALA 2.0 from China. TO read them, follow the link in this post.
